When not to use

Provas injection contains paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen), and should not be used in patients who have previously experienced hypersensitivity reactions to paracetamol or any other components of the product.

Precautions

Paracetamol can lead to severe skin reactions such as acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), which can be life-threatening. Patients should be educated about the signs of these reactions, and if any signs of hypersensitivity or skin rash occur, the use of the drug should be discontinued immediately.

Warnings

1. Patients with hepatic insufficiency, chronic malnutrition, chronic alcoholism, or dehydration may have a higher risk of liver damage when taking paracetamol.
2. Caution should be exercised when using paracetamol in patients with hepatocellular insufficiency, including Gilbert’s syndrome (familial hyperbilirubinemia).
3. Use with caution in patients with anorexia, bulimia, cachexia, or chronic malnutrition, as they may have low reserves of hepatic glutathione.

Provas injection dosage

Provas IV 1gm infusion is typically administered in doses prescribed by a healthcare professional based on the patient’s condition and response to treatment. The usual recommended dosage for adults is:

• For pain relief: 1gm (one vial) infused over 15 minutes every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
• For fever reduction: 1gm (one vial) infused over 15 minutes every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not exceeding 4gm (four vials) in 24 hours.
